Mercy Ships Canada Becomes Major Partner of 8th World Congress of Francophone Nurses

Montréal and Victoria February 7, 2022 – The International Secretariat of Nurses of the Francophone Space (SIDIIEF) is proud to announce its partnership with Mercy Ships Canada as a Major Partner of the 8th World Congress of Francophone Nurses.

Mercy Ships Canada is an international humanitarian organization that deploys the world's largest civilian hospital ships, particularly along the coast of Africa, providing free surgery, setting up post-operative follow-up clinics and training local teams in these follow-ups. To do this, the organization regularly recruits French-speaking nurses for its volunteer missions.

''We are privileged at Mercy Ships Canada to have been offered this unique partnership with SIDIIEF '' said Chairman of the Board, Alain-Michel Sékula. '' My colleagues on the Board and the entire Mercy Ships family across the world look forward to working closely with SIDIIEF’s global francophone nursing community.''

SIDIIEF and Mercy Ships Canada share common values of access to care, solidarity, capacity building and improving the health of populations, all with a view to sustainable development. For this reason, Mercy Ships Canada has also chosen to partner with the Congress Support Fund, which provides financial support for the participation of nurses from non-OECD countries. The Support Fund grantees come to share their realities and experiences with the global francophone nursing network, providing an indispensable perspective on global health issues and innovations.

Bryce Wager, Executive Director of the Mercy Ships Global Association, stated, "It is no secret the rapid pace of change and economic disparity makes it hard for some developing countries to address the range of healthcare needs of their citizens. With this new partnership, nurses and stakeholders will have more learning opportunities to help foster and advance medical capacity building. In addition, service to patients will be enhanced by leveraging SIDIIEF's diverse membership and the expertise of Mercy Ships in working collaboratively in countries where there are people in great need".

"SIDIIEF is delighted with this partnership, which marks the beginning of a lasting and promising collaboration for the global nursing community." Hélène Salette, Executive Director of SIDIIEF.
